RE: ULF lens wanted

I happen to have a Goerz 30" APO Artar (f12.5) in an Ilex No.5 shutter that
I don't use very much any more. If anyone is interested, I might part with
it for the right price. I know it will cover at least 8x20, and it should
cover 20x24 with no problem.

A 24inch (600mm) lens is a slight wide angle on a 20x24. A "normal
lens" would be about 800mm. The real trick is finding a lens this long
with that coverage in a shutter of any type. If a barrel lens can be
used I would consider the Nikor 610mm process lens. There were quite a
few of these made, they remainders were "dumped" on the market about 5
years ago for ?500US? each. Great price. They don't have the
collectability of Artars, so are more reasonably priced. I have one for
my 11x14 and love it. I "assume" it would cover a 20x24 because I was
"told" it has the same coverage as an Artar.

The folks at Wisner and "The View Camera Store" are probably the best
experts at "ULF" in the states. "Assuming" you are now "in the know"
about "ULF", I would call them with any questions ;-)

One important question is if your friend needs infinity coverage (and
if he/she needs movements at infinity). If it is only going to be used
at studio distances, the coverage can be smaller.
