A propos of "aid for New Orleans," I note a story in today's Times
headlined "After the Storm, the Swindlers." A raft of scams have popped up
with names like parishdonations.com, and katrinafamilies.com, many with
apparent links to white separatist groups, among other swindles. The FBI
puts the number of groups, legitimate or other, at "2,300 and rising."
At this point the safest may be the Red Cross, although the article points
out that solicitations "phishing" by simulating Red Cross web site are
also appearing. So... caveat donor.
