Terry,

 

What Chris and Loris are discussing is the calibration steps of printing gum
using digital negatives. Once the minimum exposure time is determined it
needs to remain constant through out the calibration process and is used
when making negatives for prints. The image is altered via Photo Shop not by
changing the exposure times when printing an image.

Again, how on earth do both Chris and Katherine appear to make gum printing
so unnecessarily complicated.

Arguing about the principles is not much help as we all know what they are.
It is the practice that matters.

The process is so flexible that making a test print for the highlights is
the best way to start. Any changes needed can be effected in later
printings.
