So the circles I see on my digital negatives aren't crop circles but
something else.

Hi Don,

Crop marks are simply a set of horizontal and vertical placement markers
for each corner of an image, indicating where to cut or trim off the
area outside the image area. If you're using a consistently spaced font
,such as courier, with your Email reader, they'll look something like this:

Crop circles, on the other hand, are reminders left by drunks and aliens
that we shouldn't get too big for our britches... 8-)
