About the reasons to use a particular process, either to create
specific imagery or to challenge technical skills...
I have found that I work in both ways. Often I want to try a new
technique after seeing some work that I admire. It may start off
as a technical exercise but usually after a while the process
helps to form the images. On the other hand, I'm a firm believer
in learning what you need to know to make the images you
visualize. Sometimes this can be the best road to learning new
techniques. For me, having to learn printmaking techniques added
a certain level of tension (artistic and personal) that kept me
moving forward.
In light of this, I'm interested in learning more about Polaroid
transfer. A friend mentioned a west coast woman photographer
(Callis? I can't remember) who has used this technique to
produce great things. Anybody know of any written materials on
the process or any published images? Thanks.
