List is running again (touch wood)

Hi all,
As you are no doubt aware, the list seems to be running again.
It has been down for nearly a month due to stability problems. These
came about when the server account was moved to facilitate retrieval of
the archives. The server account is now back where it used to be, and
that machine has been changed to allow me to get the archives running
(which I hope to do within a week or two).
Although the list is running, it has already crashed once since
monday (when it came online again), so there may be some tweaking to do.
There is also a few hundred messages outstanding for it to process, and
it may fall over a few times until they are handled. I will be trying to
keep as close an eye as possible on the list to make sure it doesn't go
down for more than 24 hours at a time (I work offsite).

And now a few reminders for people which may be new to the list.
Firstly, make sure you always send mail to the list from the address by
which you are subscribed. Your mail will be rejected by the list
otherwise.
Anyone whose site does not respond to mail from the list, whose
address bounces, whose site causes mailing errors, etc, etc, will have
their name removed from the list to prevent error messages making it to
the list.
Mail regarding subscribing, etc, should go to the list
processor, listproc@vast.unsw.edu.au. Send a message "HELP" as the
message body, no other text, to the listproc for any help you might
need.

I apologise for the list downtime, and wish to assure you that
it was not through tardiness on my part. One thing after another has
gone wrong with the list and at this site recently, but things should be
back to normal very soon.
I also apologise to all those people that have sent me email to
which I have not replied. I have received several hundred such messages,
and it was just easier to ignore them and wait until the list was
functioning again before attempting to reply (consider this the reply).
As it is difficult to process requests by hand, anyone who has
sent me private email regarding the lists may wish to wait a few days to
see what happens before sending mail to the listproc. I will endeavour
to process as much as possible, but this may result in inconsistencies
with requests already processed. Sorry.

cheers
-steve
