The third edition, completely revised, of _History and Practice of Platinum
Printing_ is just off the press. I am very happy about it. It is the first
book that I write/publish that benefits from high res typesetting. At 192
pages, it is nearly twice as large as the previous edition, and features
among other things, interviews with the Master printers who made the now
(in?)famous Mapplethorpe platinum prints. The book is also supplied with a
sample sheet of the new Arches Platine paper, 13x18cm (5"x7"), 310 grams.
Also included, but IN LIMITED QUANTITIES, is a tipped in specimen of a
Palladio print (photo and print by Robert J. Steinberg), made from an
internegative that was scanned and produced on an Iris ink jet printer. It
is beautiful. The Iris, which uses 15 micron ink jets, gives an apparent
resolution of 1800 dpi and appears screenless, even under magnification.
The book has a complete explanation of how the print was made. This new
combination of modern-old technology is likely to become popular in the
upcoming years. Those who want the print should reserve a copy by e-mail to
the author ASAP. Members of this list are the first ones to hear about this
book.
The original plan called for every copy of the first press run to have the
Palladio/Iris print but there has been a problem with getting enough of the
prints. I only have 200 or so at this time.
The book is US$40 plus shipping. More info available offline:
