For POP work you need a negativ density range of 1.8-2.1 which
comes to a contrast index (CI) of 1.0 for a normal subjet brightness
range. This is indeed a very contrasty negative.
Checking the datasheet for Tri-x Professional film (I only have
an old one from 1983) I find the highest CI they give is 0.8
which is reached in D-76 after 15 minutes (20 deg,
undiluted). A couple of years ago I did some tests
with hard working developers on Tri-X prof and found that Kodak
D11 worked well. Try developing at 20 deg and continues
agitation, in straight D11 for 6 minutes.

Today I am working with T-Max 400 which is easy to get high
contrast negs with. I develop in a Jobo rotary drum at 24
deg. and use regular T-Max developer (1+4). Good starting
points are 7.5 min for normal platinum and 15 min for POP negs.
