Yes, the procedure described is commonly used also in stretching
watercolor paper by watercolor painters. If you are doing gum printing or
other processes using watercolor paper, then the best thing is to find
some books or watercolor painting and read them. I am sure you can find
many from your local public library. This problem with curling of paper
is so common to them. We don't have to re-invent the wheel.
