X-ray film developers

As a project in my Chemistry and Art class, a student is going to make some
photomicrograph negatives by projecting the image from the microscope
directly on to the film - a nice way (I hope) to make large negatives for
contact printing. Someone sent me some DuPont Cronex 14" x 17" X-ray film
that he is going to use. I have tried Dektol with a test, but it seems to
work too fast. I also have some Kodak D-11 developer. Can anyone make any
guesses about D-11, or does anyone have some other suggestions?
