Silicon pinholes

Having some experience making silicon pinholes for an experimental ink jet
printer I would like to comment that the pinholes are not round, but will either
be truncated four sided pyramids or truncated tetrahedra, depending on the
silicon crystal orientation. Other odd shapes occur for other crystal
(mis)orientations. The materials needed are oxidized silicon wafers and
potassium hydroxide solutions.

This is a very common process used for a variety of devices here in Silicon
Valley and elsewhere, notably Philips in Eindhoven.
