Maybe off the wall....but, as a child, (back in 40's) my mother and
grandmother used Mrs. White's Bluing which came as a blue liquid in a
bottle, to add to the wash to make whites whiter. Could this be something
similar to adding a blue pigment? If it worked w/cotton then why not linen?
