In addition to this discussion can I point you, as a paper conservator, to
the very good book

"Materials for Conservation, organic consolidants, adhesives and coatings"
C.V. Horie
Butterworths
London 1987
ISBN 0-408-01531-4

here you will find an in depth discussion on acrylic polymers (brush up
your chemistry) with many pointers to articles and research reports. As a
paper conservator I would recommend not to use any extra additions to paper
that can proove to be insoluble in the future (as acrylics will be). I have
seen and encountered too many conservational problems with these kind of
multiple material "sandwiches". As are photographic papers (POP, DOP, PE)
too BTW!
