Computer-generated Autochromes in Photoshop

I have been wanting to play around with custom filters in Photoshop for
some time. I actually have never seen an Autochrome, but from the
discussion it sounds interesting. If someone could direct me to some prints
or reproductions I could perhaps, with a little assistance, duplicate the
process on the computer. Assistance from someone who understands exactly
what is happening chemically would be appreciated, as once I understand it
I can probably re-create it using a good algorithm in the Filter Factory in
Photoshop. Anyone interested?
