"Photogravure" is one of the most confusing terms around. As a rule, in
English, it refers to the intaglio process that uses a copper plate to
transfer an image to paper. The process has come in all kinds of flavors
over the years. To name just a few: photoetching, photo-intaglio,
heliotint, mezzochrome, mezzo-tinto-gravure, photo-aquatint, neotype,
Altogravure, Velogravure, and even gets more confusing when you add the
German terms.
The most common term in French is "h=E9lio", short for h=E9liogravure. In
=46rench "photogravure" means photomechanical reproduction in general or
halftone photolithography (aka "offset")
