no wonder no one ever attempts to discuss esthetics on this list.

not what i said. I was talking about how reproduction sometimes loses many
qualities present in original work which is important to its success,
causing that kind of work to appear inferior to work which does not lose
these qualities in reproduction, etc (read the original- its in there)

well DKenn i'm sorry i'm not but... you can see some stuff at web site
listed in my sig, none of it is alternative process work (for the reasons
we've been discussing) and they're not as nice as the original Iris prints
of course. Couple weeks ago i participated in ArtHop, a sort of open studio
thing in my new town, Bend, Oregon, which will occur again in Spring
sometime. Other than that, you can see my portfolio which is all original
prints (You'll have to come to Bend, of course). I have been exhibiting
since high school, nothing that special, but I've been in a few one-person,
group and juried shows throughout the years, even won a couple awards. As i
already said, the art/gallery world has a problem with work that is too
diverse, which i can understand from a marketing viewpoint, but i won't
tailor my work to their needs (then it's not art, but commercial art). I'm
just an amateur pluggin away, but i think i can express an opinion about the
value of slides without having to "prove" that i have a right to my opinion
by having work in galleries for you to see. I could demonstrate what i mean
by showing you an original platinum/palladium print and its reproduction.
That's why some of us make them...

but when we look at work only in slide form, that stuff gets unfairly

if you are subscribed to the list, you'll get messages which are posted to
the list. Correct me if esthetics is a verboten topic for this list.
otherwise, you need to unsubscibe. My welcome message said, "The purpose of
alt-photo-process is the discussion of alternative photographic processes".
I sincerely believe that's what we're doing.
