Re: A question about inks

Hi Sandy,

At 01:07 PM 12/12/06 -0500, you wrote:
Can someone tell me if the India Ink used by lithographers is a pigmented ink or a dye ink? And if they are pigmented, would anyone know of a source for inks of other colors that disperse as easily in water and gelatin solutions as India ink?

India Ink is pigmented, and the Speedball India Ink I have is waterproof as well.

Other pigmented inks with a wide range of colours are marketed under the Daler-Rowney brand as FW Acrylic Artists Ink. These are waterproof, lightfast, and as the name indicates, acrylic based. They can be found at art material suppliers.

Also, what is the difference between a waterproof and non-waterprooof ink?

When I think of non-waterproof inks, I think of those used in fountain pens, etc., which are dye-based, fade easily, and run if rewetted. I imagine there are other types of non-waterproof inks, but no specifics come to mind at the moment.

Hope this is of some help,
Randi
