I'd recommend Ralph Mayer, title something like "Materials of the Artist" (or maybe that's Doerner?) Anyway, an earlier edition would be better, before it got so full of acrylic (not this problem). He talks about opacity, covering power, and similar attributes of different pigments... I suppose the Wilcox Watercolor book has that info, too... but he wastes too much space with his fancy graphics. Then again, some of the data sheets from the manufacturer (Dan'l Smith?, Rowney?) will say opaque or transparent... or used to.
