Don, Is the double coating sometimes working better because the first coat acidifies the paper (with some papers)? I should also mention that additives to the sensitizer can be used to influenced the final color of the print, toned or untoned. I think Ware's Agyrotype process is worth exploring too, I keep telling myself to do that but keep getting side tracked on to other things.
