Re: VDB Color

I have tried to tone VDB with diluted KRST and it definitely works. The color I got was red-to-chocholate brown (Loris say sepia???). But you must tone after fix.
See my two galleries:

On first link VDBs are toned with KRST, on the second are toned with KRST and /or Tetenal Gold toner.

Hi Don. Each to his own...

Color: I absolutely don't like the color I get with KRST (yellowish
brown)...

Longevity: I'm skeptical about the level of protection one will be able to
get with such a dilute toner (and relatively short toning times to evade any
bleaching possibility)... Can't speak for combination toning; haven't tried
it, but it sounds nice since there's gold toning in the workflow. ;)

Loris.

P.S. The name: Could it be Mike something? I seem to remember someone names
Mike (or Michael) ? who have shared his KRST toned Kallitypes here...

Loris,

Drop the selenium idea, if you're going to use ready made selenium toners
which incorporate ammonium thiosulfate that is...
I have to disagree with you here. KRST can be used to tone VDB if used
carefully. I can't recall the name of the photographer who turned me on to
this method but if the KRST is used in extremely dilute amounts VDBs and
kallitypes can be toned successfully, before or after fixing. It can also be
used in combination with gold toner to make beautiful tones. It's tricky but
can be done. The key is to experiment.
Start with 10 grams of KRST to 1 liter of water. A more dilute solution
maybe called for. Some reduction may occur if so dilute further and try
again. One shot toning using about 30 or 40 ml per 8x10 sized paper.
