hi judy, people are doing a lot of insane things. a few days ago i catched part of a documentary on golddiggers from brazil on tv. the chief guy stood in front of a barrel of gold-dirt-slush, he then pulled a bottle of liquid mercury out of his bermudas - 'uh oh! no gloves', i thought - and started pouring the mercury OVER HIS LEFT HAND into the slush, then a younger guy jumped into the barrel and started mixing it with his bare feet. later the chief burned off the mercury from the remaining mercury-gold-mix with a blowtorch, of course no mask or anything. and even that guy was about 40 years old and still going. although i doubt he has a very high life expectancy.. i think it's pretty unscientific and maybe unnecessarily alarmist to extrapolate from hearsay biographies and case histories. other factors, like maybe genetics, smoking habits etc. could play too big of a role. although this should not speak for a laissez-faire attitude in the handling of chemicals. phritz Judy Seigel schrieb: One thing I'd bet for sure ... nobody, but nobody's gonna put their hands in the dichromate ! (I mean, probably in the wash water, plenty jerky enough already, but not in the solution itself !!??)
