Re: Scanner recommendations?

I'll add to Paul's comment that, right now, on Epson's web site, the V700 refurbished is $415
with free ground shipping.

The V700 is great in value and performance. It occupies a sweet spot, in that you would have to spend considerably more to see an increase in quality and performance.

I'm planning to purchase a V700 soon, to be able to make good quality scans
from (again planned purchase) Bessa III 667 MF folder camera. The reviews
about the scanner are very favourable; I remember reading that results are
in par with dedicated 4000dpi Nikon film scanner. (I find hard to believe
that! OTOH, with 6x7 negatives it isn't that much important since I won't be
needing a performance above 2800-3000dpi at all...)

I don't need full version SilverFast (since I use/prefer Vuescan) and the
anti-glare glass (since I will be scanning - relatively - low DR negatives,
not high DR positives) features of V750, BTW.

Regards,
Loris.

Simply put the money spent would be wise to go for the V700 and use kami
fluid . . period.

There have been quite a few posts on printers recently, but I need a
new scanner :-(

I want an A4 flatbed which can also scan both 35mm & 120 film. Cost is
an issue but I am looking for new rather than used because it needs to
work with Windows 7 64-bit and older models may not have up- to-date
drivers. I've had Epson before and a quick check on their web site
suggests the Epson Perfection 4490 as their cheapest which fits the
bill. Any thoughts/alternatives?

Thanks
