Edward, There are two very different interpretations that can be made about
your prints which I feel are getting commingled to the detriment of both;
artist expression and pure science of printing.

Having the understanding of the later helps to further the directed
expression of the former. If you like the brush strokes; excellent. If they
are intentional so much the better. If however they are a by product of the
lack of command over the process; ikes - need more practice.

Comments about Ware process by Etienne, are I believe, confusing the
Ware/Malde platinum printing process and his guide to making digital
negatives.

>From a more purist approach, the prints on your site do show a rather
obvious streaking from your brush strokes. There are many ways to get over
that and some have to do with volume of coating solution/sq mm of print.
Other have to do with paper and or treatment to "make it work" with the
coating process you are trying and yet other have to do with drying of the
paper after coating.

As to how the negatives are crafted, well there are many curves and ink
mixtures and substrates, and ..... Bottom line is make a negative that
has enough density to print with your desired tonal range with what the
medium can achieve. If that requires a DR of 3.0 then use it/make it. If it
not don't spend the energy getting there.

Thank you for all your comments

Some so honest they made me wince - but hey I'm here to learn - and you
don't forget advice like that

I did spend a large amount of time on my negatives and calibrating them
using step wedges and correction factors that I applied with curves in
PhotoShop

I'm happy with that aspect

I did not realise that the artifacts from applying the salts to the paper
that I adore - and was one of the reasons for coming to these processes in
the first place - caused such a bad reaction.

I love the brush strokes and will stick with them

I did not acidify my Fabriano paper - and looking at some of the comments,
I'm not sure I need to

Who does use an acid wash with this paper?

What process do you follow?

What evidence do you have that it improves things?

Thanks

Edward
