Chris, When I refer to print , I am asking about an INKJET print. To make
sure that the actual printing device is working with some accuracy, I was
looking to see if the workflow allowed you to get a normal looking image out
of the printer. Turn that around and get a normal looking neg so that your
alt prints would look like what you'd expect.
And I do see variation in the top print out to the bottom. There a band of
darker area in the second row. Is that an artifact of making a visual for
the web?
I have only recently upgraded an old Macbook to SL purely for software
testing as I live in the PC world for production.
The mention of Gutenprint by Gordon may also be a viable alternative for
you. This solved the issue for some on a Epson Printer forum. In going from
Tiger to Snow Leopard, I've lost my Mac side printing through Image Print as
I have version 6.1 as it does not go that far. I am keeping my old XP boxes
running with new HDs so that I have a source to print the old Epson 7000
until it dies. My point here is that so many choices are available to the
creator of digi negs that broken workflows caused by software changes can be
an on going headache.
I can confirm seeing the application of profiles to the workflow to print
targets. This has been discussed on Epson Wide format group too. So if the
PDN requires you to use a file with no profile attached, matching the
profile of target file and printer profile should work.

Eric,
the pastel tonal palette is what is printed in gum below it. It held back
NO light. Usually on the color palette I get strips of white to black
varying on each row according to the color. As you can see, no variation in
tonality. No holding back enough UV light at all. So yes, the "print" aka
gumprint is "dark".
I can say that this easter egg phenomenon happened on the 2400 and the 3880
with Snow Leopard and CS4.
So it goes...
