[alt-photo] printer woes

Dear All,

What a PITA.

My printer was working fine yesterday and then all of a sudden it came up with a "parts inside your printer are at the end of their service life" and it will not print anymore unless it is repaired.

Epson 2400.

If you get this message here is what's up: the diaper that collects ink underneath the ink cartridges is full. That diaper needs to be replaced. It is about $43. There is no manual to take your printer apart, but the repair service in Portland said you can find directions to do so online pretty easily.

What needs to happen is first to reset the counter (yes, every time you clean your heads the counter records it and predicts when the diaper is at its end whether it is or not. So the 50 times I cleaned my printer head when trying to get the Snow Leopard/Epson 2400 driver incompatibility problem figured out made that counter count and how.) Then with the manual's help, presumably, install the diaper. He said it is not hard to do at all. Unfortunately I am not a gifted person mechanically and here is the other snafu.

If you send the printer with a full diaper (I know this is beginning to sound ridiculous) it will spill over and ruin the printer. Thus you cannot ship it. You have to bring it in to the service center. Of which there are none (reputable) in BZ. Those of you in a big city are fine, though.

And try ordering a 3880--they are backordered everywhere....

End of story.

Thought I'd share in case someone on the list comes across this issue and lives in a big city. Bottom line, the printer is NOT actually dead but "playing possum".

I've got a techy guy coming over shortly who works out of his home so hopefully it'll get solved.

OH and let me gripe some more. My Canoscan FS4000 does NOT work with Snow Leopard. So now tell me how I like Snow Leopard??
Chris
