Dear List,

I am having such a good time. I have had a file of all alt list messages from 94, its inception, to 2005 (then the archive splits and moves somewhere else?) that I downloaded some time ago but have not had a chance to look at yet.

I don't remember where or when or who was so kind to keep the archive but kudos to you.

I finally started reading through it this week. It is not for the faint of heart--over 61,000 messages during that time. My goal is to keep only the ones that apply to my interests as I weed out my life and computer. The file isn't so huge, though--maybe half a gig.

What I am impressed with is the level of sharing of this list over that time. Also the names of list members throughout the years reads like a Hall of Fame. It is sad to seem some of them no longer on the list, or no longer sharing, probably moved to some other list that is more active.

It's all there in those files: the arguments, the flames, and the wonderful and gracious sharing.

I found my very first tentative post Dec 5 1999. Little did I know I would still be active on the list twelve years later. I can safely say I have met all of my alt friends through this list. The wonders of the internet.

I don't mean to wax poetic at this end of the year/holiday time but a huge thank you to all of you out there who have shared generously over the last decade, and I encourage those with time to read through the archives. There are some gems in there!
