With time pt/pd emulsion loses speed after coating given the same amount of moisture in the emulsion---- one reason not to coat one day and print the next. 

All things being equal the effect of moisture in the emulsion & paper at the time of exposure has a huge effect on the scale and richness of the blacks. 

Too much moisture and the blacks suffer due to printing out masking.  The exposure scale lengthens. 

Too little moisture and you get reversal and poor blacks and shorter scale. 

You have to keep it the same for each print.
