RE: Photogravure around the world
David Morrish
I was speaking to Keith Dugdale and Joyce Peck about you yesterday. My reaction
was what a great place to do it !
I would be delighted to correspond.
There is a group in Sweden who are acively into gravure. I have a publication
in front of me
which was published in Helsinki which contains examples of their work. It is
called 'Arttu' and the telephone number is 358 0 75631 or Fax 358 0 7563 223
which is the Helsinki University of Industrial Design ( civilised lot, the
Finns). There are also courses at the Royal College of Art and Goldsmiths
College that include gravure but not, so far as I know separately.I know a guy
locally, in Teddington, who was on the RCA course, but I have not contacted him
lately. I think I must. There is also a workshop in Kent, producing prints for
painters, engravers and etchers, Julian Grater from the workshop, came on the
greavure course as he was producing hand gravures of his art works arising from
a commission in Western Australia where he incorporated materials from RTZ mines
in the pictures. We needed to cope with an immense density range. For some of
the highlights the plate was in the low specific gravity ferric chloride bath
for less than thirty seconds.
Joyce Peck, who joined the list yesterday, will have details of the Swedes as
they exhibited in the two alternative photography exhibitions she has arranged
so far in High Wycombe and in St Martin's Lane in central London.
Looking forward to hearing more from you.
