Would it be possible to use normal B&W sheet film,
and treat it somehow after processing to accept
dyes? If this is feasible, it would eliminate the
problem of finding suitable matrix film, and its
availability. The acceptance agent might already
exist in the Graphic Arts realm of things...
Just another hair-brained idea.....
