Silver nitrate has a number of medical uses. One of which is as a
cauterizing agent. They used to put drops of dilute silver nitrate
in newborn infant's eyes to prevent infection. And then there used to
be nosedrops called "Argerol" (sp?) which was a dilute solution containing
silver nitrate. I don't know if silver nitrate is still used in this
way. Maybe an MD on the list could comment.
