(David has said he considers this a better book than his earlier best
seller "The Craft of Photography," tho sales, for whatever reasons, were
less.)
Now in the current issue of "Grump 44," David Vestal's own private and
WONDERFUL explanation of the way things amazingly are, is the message that
the current catalog of "Bargain Books' from Edward R. Hamilton,
Bookseller, Falls Village, CT 06031-5000 has this book, $5.95 per copy
plus $3 for postage." As I believe I may also have mentioned, he says
Hamilton "always has interesting books, and this [catalog] has 104 pages
of them. My book is on page 58, and its order number is 694533...
" For orders in Connecticut, Hamilton charges sales tax, not only on the
book, but also on the shipping." In Connecticut, therefore, his book would
cost $9.49, or $8.95 to out of staters. As Grump notes, "Not bad for this
book though I say it myself as shouldn't."
Sorry I can't find my catalog at the moment, it probably got recycled, so
I can't say what postage would be for overseas.....my guess would be add
$5 to the original $3 postage, and still a bargain. Note that Hamilton
economizes by not having phone, either 800 or regular listed.
I won't say more about Grump 44, except that it's the best yet, and thus
an inspiration to me, as David Vestal is even older than I am, thus
encouraging the hope that I, too, can improve with age. It's 8 pages of
small print, "published informally and occasionally by David Vestal," $20
for 6 issues (stateside anyway) to him at PO Box 309, Bethelhem CT
06751-0309.
Ask for your subscription to start with issue 44 -- tho it occurs to me
that David is going to Brazil for for a stretch of work, could possibly
plan to suspend publication for the interim.
