1. the list was out over the weekend (my time). I brought it back up
yesterday. This is why some messages took two days to appear, why
some listproc requests fell on deaf ears, and why there was no
traffic for two to three days.
Please try to remember that these things happen, and don't start to
panic until after a few days, remember that some of us aren't around
on the weekends, and address any problems to me direct, rather than
clutter up the list unnecessarily.
2. Due to the huge volume of bounced email I am getting at the moment
(some 200 messages in 24 hours), I am being a bit ruthless about
unsubscribing people. If I get error messages from you or your site
for more than a day, or if the type of message suggests your account
no longer exists, well it's bye bye time. Send me email if you think
this has happened to you and it shouldn't have.
3. Some sites are giving me problems every now and then. These include
compuserve (which Terry has already addressed, and which I think they
have fixed), and earthlink.net. Just a warning that these problems
exist.
4. And a reminder - I do this for the fun of it. I don't get paid for
it, and it uses up a sizable chunk of what free time I have. I
actually enjoy doing it - most of the time. I do not enjoy being
abused for being slow to respond to requests because people have
forgotten how to use listproc commands. I was recently abused for not
getting around to someone's request after two days. During those two
days (and the two after that), I was busy writing a paper for a
conference and finishing up a program for 200 users (the problem with
two deadlines at the same time and working two jobs).
Give me a break people. Be assured I get around to all your email,
eventually, and that sometimes they take a while to work out what is
wrong. Also keep in mind I don't login over weekends, and I also have
a job to do so I can pay the mortgage. Please be patient.
enough bellyaching...
