It really is dumb the way Photoshop works in 1-100% measurements when
everything is built around 8bit channels, isn't it? I understand that
PostScript level 2 is not limited to 256 levels, that's a limitation of
level 1, which is essentially obsolete. A suggestion to create a 256 step
scale: in 8bit mode, create a graduated fill from white to black, then
"posterize" to 256 levels. Just an idea off the top of my balding head,
possibly dumb. don't flame me, i'm trynto help :-)
