Yes I tried once with a Linotype machine controlled with a Mac/Photoshop
combination. I believe the DPI rate of the film writer was 1200. In Photoshop
"bitmap mode/diffusion dither" the rate was set to about 900, but I know very
few about this technique.
The negative ( A3 / 42x30 cm) was good for gum printing, because of the slight
diffusion given by the gum process. Used for kallitype, it showed the very
fine raster structure (which I disliked).
I didn't had the occasion of working again with this material, and I know
nobody who ever tried at a better resolution. But I would appreciate if an
expert of our Alt-Pho-Proc-list could drop information on this purpose.
For example: Working with a 2400 DPI film writer on graphic film (rastered),
how high can I set the bitmap resolution in my favorite image processing
program?
