Re: Gum prints with the enlarger

It seems to me that last year we had a discussion about making gum prints
with an enlarger and someone posted a note explaining how he had done this
by combining a mercury arc lamp and a projector. Since then I have acquired
a large Hg arc lamp and an old 4 x 5 enlarger. Its on my list of things
to try. I still think (as per my comments about this last year)that, if
one could get some pure quartz condenser lenses, the whole thing would
work better (ordinary glass absorbs UV). Quartz lenses are available, but
rather expensive. Of course, it is possible that the intense radiation
from the arc might "fry" the negs. So far, this remains a "thought"
experiment.
