Enlarged negative methodology

Hi All,
I thought that I would add my two cents since it was my question that
started this in the first place.
I have a feeling that the search for the ultimate enlarged negative
technique is dependent on final product. I agree with many of you,
"bigger is better" but would love to know that when I do shoot
'subminature' as Adams called anything below 4x5; I can make a decent
enlarged negative. I have had good results using Agfa N-31p film in a
JOBO processor. My method is to contact print the original negative to
make a slightly darker and flat positive(you want the highlights to
show more detail than normal). The positive is processed in a Jobo
3006 or 3005 drum using HC-110(1:19 from concentrate) at 70 F. for 4
minutes(rotation speed 4). The positive is enlarged onto same film and
developed in same chemistry and temp. for 9 to 12 minutes in a JOBO
11x14 or 16x20 PRINT drum. The print drum works fine and cost much
less than the JOBO film drum. I suspect that Judy Seigel's open tube
method would work equally well as JOBOs don't grow on trees. The
platinum print from enlarged negative looks 'nearly' as good as the
same print for original negative. I am after that elusive final tweak
to make it "as good as"; with the JOBO to my left and densitometer to
my right AND 3 months coming up away from photo students, I just might
find what I am looking for (OR wish that I was on a beach somewhere
sipping Gin and Tonics)
