The glass rod should be as wide as the width of the paper. Place the paper
in landscape mode on your flat work surface. I'm right handed so I place the
rod on the right hand side of the paper with the rod runing up the width of
the paper, the rod is in a verticle position flat on the paper. My emulsion
is mixed and in a little plastic 1 oz hot sauce cup. With my right hand
holding the rod down and with my left holding the cup I pour with my left
hand the solution under the curve of the rod where the rod meets the paper.
This is on the left hand side of the rod and I almost "toss" the emulsion
under the rod. I then jiggle the rod up and down for a second or two and
this allows the emulsion to run up and down the rod from end to end. The rod
is then gently but firmly sweeped across the paper from the left side to the
right and back again. The capillary action of the rod touching the paper
sort of sucks the emulsion along. I hope this describes it for you. It a
whole lot easier than it sounds.
