Apologies for not posting this, but I have lost the one I was intending to
post - no doubt somewhere in my filing cabinet at work, or perhaps it got
left behind the last time I moved office.

However ther are a dozen pages on this very subject in the 'Silver Gelatin'
book that I have mentioned earlier, including 19 different recipes for
various types of emulsion. I did mail Martin Read (one of the authors) and
suggest he respond to you request as I know he sometimes reads the list.
However, here is an outline of the simplest method taken from there

Emulsion Formula 5 - Unwashed emulsion.

All done using safelight of course. And all equipment must be kept
scrupulously clean.

Solution A
Add 20 g Food Gelatin (not photographic gelatin) to 125ml distilled water,
allow to swell, then heat to 50 degrees centigrade in a water bath. Add 16 g
potassium bromide and stir constantly until both are dissolved.

Solution B is 20g silver nitrate in 125ml water at 40 degrees C.

Add B to A in 5 ml portions with constant stirring over about 10 minutes.

Filter the mixture through cotton or glass wool in a funnel and it can be
used immediately. (Will probably keep for a while if you don't want to use
it all - just let it set and warm in water bath for use.)

Unwashed emulsions such as this may give small black spots when coated on
some papers - if this occurs then the emulsion will have to be set, shredded
and washed - full details given in the book. Or you could just use different
paper! Washing emulsions adds greatly to the time and fussiness

I think if you want to experiment with these things the book is really a
great buy - you will soon recover its cost - if it is difficult to get from
specialists in your country try ordering over the net or by post form
Working Books - who supply various books mail order. I think their details
were posted earlier, can't find them immediately (or Silverprint).
