Actually, I always thought Emerson's story was very instructive as to
human nature. After he published "The Death of Naturalistic Photography"
(complete with black borders) as a final chapter to a new edition of
"Naturalistic Photography" he then proceeded to continue taking his
wonderful landscapes of the Norfolk Broads. I guess renouncing and
and quiting are two different things.
