Making a negative with more contrast is really the best way to go.
Since you are most likly making large negs anyway using ortho-litho
film, (a) use a slightly longer exposure time on the negative and
(B) do not dilute the negative developer as much (try 1:5 or 1:8 instead of
1:10).
