Kerik Kouklis asked about a good book about Frederick Evans.

I certainly don't want to get into one of those discussions about qualities
of reproductions vs. the original prints. Any book about FE would flunk that
test. However, that does not negate the value of a book, at least if you
don't have access to a large collection of Evans prints.

Having said that, I would recommend the old Aperture monograph ("Frederick H.
Evans", Aperture, Inc., 1973; Library of Congress No. 73-85260). It is out
of print now. Aperture reprinted it at least once in the past ten years or
so, I think. You might contact Aperture to see whether they still have any
copies on hand (Aperture, 20 East 23rd Street, NYC 10010; 1-800-783-4903).
For books about still in print, you might contact Rick Reed at the PhotoEye
Books and Prints in Santa Fe (376 Garcia St., Santa Fe NM 87501;
505-988-5152). I looked in Rick's 220 page catalog of 3,300 photo books
from 1994 and did not see any monographs about Evans.

The Aperture monograph has 75 plates along with a wonderful biography and
essay by Beaumont Newhall. The reproductions may not be perfect, but they
were enough to convince me years ago that platinum was the way to go.
