I have had very poor luck with burnt sienna, and van Dyke in Rowney
and Grumbacher.

Sorry about that last message. I hit Caps Lock and Spacebar and it sent the
message unfinished.

To begin again. I use Windsor Newton water colors. I've have had very good
luck with Burnt Umber but one of my favorite browns is a combination of
Indian Red and Ivory Black as you can change the proportions to get a wide
variety of rich brown tones. And if you do multiple coats as I do you can
vary the proportions from coat to coat.

As far as brush on sizing. I recently tested brushing as oposed to dunking
for multiple coats. The brushing didn't work nearly as well. Although I will
brush on a coat of gelatine after 4 or 5 coats of gum if I'm getting ready to
print some "blues".
As when I'm dong tri-color where I print the blue coats last.
