Pretty much anything since this is a temporary support. Poster board or any
other heavy paper works.

The problem with plastics is getting the gelatin to stick. I haven't had
terribly good luck with this, but am running a new experiment. You need to put
a sublayer on the plastic that the gelatin will bond to. See the collotype
section in the "Keepers of Light book". The preparation of a substrate layer is
described there.
