retouching

A small question about retouching for negatives. I would be most interested
to know what list recipients use as their preferred retouching substance
for internegatives. Factors here are of course multiple - both the purpose
of the negative (UV versus other), permanence and archival stability...
Also, do people ever vary the retouching substance (as they would for
contrast levels and film used) depending on what the final printing medium
will be (eg platinum versus cyanotype versus carbon)?

I await some expert knowledge, and (of course) many different (and often
conflicting) opinions! ;-)
