Another option for reading the archives is Gregory Walkers WWW version of
the Archive at

http://www.webcom.com/gwalker/altphoto/

Every message has been set up as an seperate page. The messages are
listed in an index. You have the option of indexing by subject, thread,
date and author. The default is by subject.

It is VERY easy to go through the index and pick out postings on
particular subjects.

I believe it is even possible to refer to the address of an individual
postings by its address (URL)

For example the URL of the very first posting to this list is

http://www.webcom.com/gwalker/altphoto/alt94/0001.html

a recent posting by me

http://www.webcom.com/gwalker/altphoto/alt96b/0480.html

Members of the list should be able to refer to specific posings via the
message's URL

Next time we tell a beginner to check the archive, we should be able to
tell them EXACTLY where they should look.

The other really nice things is that URL's quoted in a posting are set up
as links and are functional.
