Coating for carbon

In reading a number of books and postings on making carbon tissue
I have come across what appears to be a big discrepancy.

Most books, including Luis's recommend that 25ml of pigmented gelatin
is required to coat a 20x25 cm (8x10") tissue. They also say that the
coating should be between 1.5 - 2 mm.

Now my calculations say that 25 ml will only cover to a depth of .5mm.
20x25x.05 cm = 25cc = 25mm. Which is correct?? I seem to get good results
using approximately 30 ml.

Cheers

Al.
