Re: signature

I have been signing prints on the obverse in an area covered by the
mat. I include a catalog number, title, and signature.

I have felt that my signature is too distracting when visible with the
image (especially smaller images).

I also have matted to the edge of the image. Other times I have matted
with a border of white around the image (a mask prevents exposure of the
brush marks for a 1/4 to 1/2 inch around the print.)

What significance does this all mean? The communication of the image is
of primacy. But, how that image is presented may influence its ability
to communicate.

I am reconsidering all of the above.
