Like (I am sure) many others on this list, I feel I must express my thanks
to Charles Palmer for the time, patience and generosity he has showed us in
sending his book chapter on digital negs out to us. It gives an over-view
of what is involved in a digital system that the average
idiot/computerphobe (ie ME!) can follow. The pros and cons, the advantages
and limitations, the different stages, the costs.... he seems to have
touched on all the basics we need to consider, so far as I can tell.
Obviously I/we need to read up about the various options/makes of equipment
on offer a bit more (and then realise that we can't afford it anyway) but
this is such a comprehensive grounding that the further reading no longer
seems quite so daunting - at least I now know what I am reading up about!
Also, the tables and curves were very helpful indeed. Thank you, Charles,
for being so nice to us! You have definitely helped me in my quest to find
out if I wish to walk down the digital road... Only time and my bank
manager will tell!

Jonathan

PS Now when I buy the wrong equipment, at least I will have had the correct
background knowledge to do it properly!!! ;-)
