You understood exactly, Judy. I was discussing calibrating the SCANS by
carefully monitoring the negative and adjusting the curves & levels so
that the image will print perfectly. This is automated by PhotoCD, but
the precise scanning calibration FotoDave was discussing is not
necessary for gum because print controls are so much easier to
implement. But what FotoDave posted was more accurate than my post.

My point was that the cheaper automated PhotoCD or desktop scans are
calibrated well enough for alt process, and there is no need to pay a
lot for calibrated scans when we can have more fun calibrating the
print. Save your money for that $5 a sheet paper!
