John, I think you're right that if you're importing reasonable quantities
for personal use and *act polite at customs* the odds of getting through
without paying duty at this end are good. My experience however might
remind people who do pay the VAT (and at 17% it's a bite) to keep those
papers handy at home, and maybe get a phone or fax number to contact, just
in case the refund doesn't arrive....
